Similar to the Apple Pie Trail, The Horse and Buggy Trail is a self-guided
tour, which travels from Holstein to Conn, with numerous places and stops
in between. From end to end the entire route is approximately 70 km. There
are two points on the trail, which offer bona fide Mennonite Horse and
Buggy rides, which are justifiably popular (and require a reservation).
Cedars of Lake Eugenia Cottage Resort offers an intimate and unique ex-
perience as Chef Gary Gingras will prepare a gourmet meal readymade
to cook in your own cottage with fresh produce collected along the Trail.
Reminiscent of the settlement of Grey County, the Horse and Buggy Trail
offers a rare glimpse into a simplified and unconventional way of living,
by today’s standards. The Trail celebrates our rural ancestry and a chance
to be immersed in a time honoured culture that cherishes home and family
in a traditional way but welcomes visitors in too.
“TheMennonites themselves are very open, and eager to meet people be-
cause they want to dispel any misconceptions that there might be about
their community,” explains Horse and Buggy Trail Marketing Coordinator
Linda Reader. “There are a whole variety of things from on the farm furni-
ture manufacturing to people who are growing.”
Motorists and cyclists alike will find the Trail enjoyable. The map outlines
a scenic route as well as paved and gravel roads. There is even a bike
shop at Matthew Weber's bicycle shop if repairs or parts are required.
Horse and Buggy Trail maps are available free at local businesses and
tourist information centers and can be downloaded at
