Good Things Gala: What a Party!
Saturday May 12
Beaver Valley Outreach will be hosting its 3
rd
annual “Good Things Gala”
fundraiser at the Beaver Valley Community Centre in Thornbury.
The success of BVO’s Good Things Gala has been growing every year
since its inception in 2010. The event sold out in 2011, with 224 guests
and various corporate sponsors raising almost $10,000 for BVO’s many
community programs and services.
“What a party it was!” exclaims MarleneWest Yen, a member of the Gala
Committee, referring to the 2011 event. “The Beaver Valley Community
Centre was transformed into an elegant venue with beautiful décor, cur-
tains and fresh flower bouquets on linen-covered tables. Ted DeCorso and
his team arranged an exquisite 4-course dinner, and entertainment by
Jamie Williams kept the dance floor packed the whole night.” This year,
BVO is pulling out all the stops to make the Good Things Gala even bigger
and better, offering seating to accommodate an additional 32 guests.
Beaver Valley Outreach is a charitable, not-for-profit, community-based
organization of over 200 volunteers and 9 permanent staff dedicated to
“making good things happen in our community”. A vital part of the com-
munity since 1982, BVO currently offers 20 programs and services de-
signed to enhance the quality of life and well-being of children, youth,
adults, families and seniors in the Town of The Blue Mountains.
“We are proud of all our programs and services,” says BVO Gala Com-
mittee member Guy Harris. “A big part of our success is the generosity of
community individuals, organizations and businesses. This year, all of the
funds raised from the Good Things Gala will be used to offset costs asso-
ciated with our children’s programs.”
In 2011, Beaver Valley Outreach programs and services for children and
youth achieved the following milestones: over 13,000 breakfasts and
lunches were served to students at Beaver Valley Community School; the
Recreational Funding program sponsored sports, art and music activities
for 60 children and youth; over 70 families participated in the Summer
Fun Day Camp; BVO hosted 80+ families in its Ontario Early Years Centre;
BVO Preschool was established.
A limited number of tickets for the Good Things Gala are available by call-
ing 519.599.2577, extension 26. Event sponsorships by local individuals
and businesses will be acknowledged with advertising around town and
at the Gala. As always, BVO welcomes donations from the community to
help support its many programs and services.
