RUSTIC
ESCAPE
IN THE WOODS
It’s been a labour of love
for Sandy Bourne and Martin Jastrzembski
ever since the day they happened on a ‘For Sale’ sign on this six acre property,
concealed in the trees near Kolapore. The five years in between have been
spent renovating, adding onto and creating their comfortable, rustic-inspired
home. Sandy has been coming to this area for over 30 years and her brother
and two sisters all have homes near by so when she andMartin decided to set-
tle here too, they knew there would have to be room for entertaining.
A Northern Ontario girl, Sandy was instantly captivated with the setting - it’s a
perfect escape complete with a large, spring-fed pond, stocked with Rainbow
Trout, perennial gardens and plenty of cedar and hardwood forest surrounding
it all. “It has a feel very similar to where my family lived in Elliott Lake,” smiles
Sandy, “It’s very nostalgic and appealing.”
The construction has all been performed by Martin, a builder by trade, who
owns ‘Czech-Mate Renovations.’ He sourced local suppliers for flooring, stone-
work and cabinetry, but he has done the work and has absolutely enjoyed every
minute. Like most renovations, there were ‘surprises’. “We found Carpenter ants
under the breakfast nook, so it meant replacing everything — but we love the re-
sults.” says Martin. The changes are seamless, the mark of a great renovation.
