Ferri FarmMarket
In2005, thirdgeneration farmersTomandKarenFerri boughta22-acre
appleorchard locatedonGreyRoad2nearVictoriaCorners. Tom reno-
vated the farm in2007, creatinga“super spindle”. This innovativegrow-
ing system utilizes high tree densities toachieve high and early yields,
while requiring lessmanualworkand less chemical inputwhich results in
lowerproductioncostand theability to introducenew, valuablevarieties
into themarket quickly.
Inacruel twist of fate, the infamousAugust 2009 tornado toucheddown
on theFerri’s farm, causingwidespreaddamage tobothcrops,andbuild-
ings.With resolve, thisdurable familyweathered thestormandcameback
stronger thanever, breathing lifeback into this sturdy farmandproducing
world-class“fancygrade”apples for localandmarketconsumption.Tom’s
philosophy is, “Picknoapplebefore its time.”The result isa flawless crop
of incrediblyperfect, extraordinarily largeanddelicious tastingapples.
Twoyearsago theFerri’sopened their farm to thepublicwithacharming
and authentic Apple Market and bakeshop. Apple varieties include
Mutsu,HoneyCrisp,MacIntosh,Gala,Ambrosia,Courtland,GoldenDe-
licious, Jonagold andMacoun. TheMarket is also stocked with fresh
AppleBlossomHoney from theFerri’shives, localbakedgoods,andMil-
fordBay smoked trout pate.
