Ithadbeenat least10years
since Ihadvisited
Sun Peaks, so when the opportunity pre-
sented itself to revisit this quaint resort, I
jumpedat thechance.Adecadeagomy life
was very different, I was living in BritishCo-
lumbiaandmakingmy livingas a ski guide,
a competitive big mountain freeskier and
steep skiingcoach. Thesedays I spendmore
time inanoffice thanon thehill, but still like to
think I can arc a pair of fat skis if given the
chance.Ofcourse, Inowhave two littleshad-
ows following my every turn, my son and
daughter, aged6and2. Thiswouldbe their
first trip toSunPeaks,alongwithmyhusband

Aquick45-minutedrive fromKamloops, Sun
Peaks is a family-friendly andaffordable re-
sort community surroundedby threemajestic
(and skiable)mountains: TodMountain,Sun-
dance and Mt. Morrisey. Our flights from
Toronto toKamloopswere uneventful, even
with a2 year-old, due in part to the conven-
ient flying timesavailable.
Upon arrival, my immediate reaction was
awe–of the snowpack, the slope-sideameni-
ties,and theobviousupgrades throughout the
European-stylevillage. I felt likemy little family

Night FamilyMovie. It was picturesqueand
exceptionallycozy, our kidsevenaskedus if
the people there spoke English. Clearly this
sleepy resort has awoken, andmanaged to
add infrastructure and facilities that blend
seamlesslywith thenatural setting.
Already the second largest ski area in BC,
with the addition of two new areas for the
2014–15 winter season Sun Peaks Resort
will now be the second largest in Canada,
growing toover4,200acresof in-boundsski
terrain. And, work has begun on over 500
acres of new, challenging terrain laidout in
the resort’s longstandingdevelopment plan,
adding to the vast amount and varietyof ski-
ingavailable for guestswhile solidifying the
SunPeaks ski experienceasoneof the top in
NorthAmerica.
