MODERN
MOUNTAIN
CULTURE
on georgian bay
We all dream
of living spaces that complement our lives. Ones that will
vary from a city home to a vacation, country setting. Urban and rural spaces
allow for differences in the design of a home from the kinds of material used,
to the colour palette, décor and layout of the spaces.
These homeowners have been coming to ski, play and bike on the Escarp-
ment for over thirty years, since they were kids — now with their own com-
bined family of five children they have created a modern living space
surrounded by snow dusted cedars and the raw, rugged shoreline of Geor-
gian Bay. Secluded, yet close to everything they want to explore.
Right from the beginning the homeowners knew exactly what they wanted.
“Our Mountain dream home has to work as a functional living space while
at the same time being a place we can relax with family and entertain with
friends. Being able to start from scratch was great. This entire building
process was a smooth experience”. Refreshingly positive reflections on the
amazing people who they worked with during this project.
Before you even enter this home you get the impression that it’s always been
here. A rare beauty of clean modern lines juxtaposed with a cedar shaked
roof, the home has a grand front entrance, erected stoic wood beams and
acres of glass — giving it a modern mountain, Aspen-like feel.
The vision of this home was planned in detail showing design savvy at every
turn. Utilizing a hands-on approach during each step — from the blueprints,
to creating casual and comfortable spaces for the family, this house screams
function. It’s one of those smart homes, where there is a place for everything.
And everything is in its place. Warm woods and natural stone, modern ac-
cents, and even small places for personal artifacts have been incorporated
effectively by the homeowners. Windows, millwork, paint colours, doors and
floors — all were chosen with precision where nothing was left to chance.
