Warmth!
It’s such a pleasant diversion and so very welcome. Spring begins
with teases and taunts but always offers hope for brighter, longer and sun-filled days
ahead. Earthy scents emerge, along with the ever present mud that oozes out of hiding
and heralds the launch of the growing season. In the words of Margaret Atwood, “In
the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” Now, those of you with small
children at home, might feel a little less enthusiastic, but at least you know they’re ex-
hausted, happy and ready for a well earned bath before bed.
There is something about the light at this time of year. It’s soft. And that’s a very good
thing because it sneaks its way silently, through the grime and grit that Winter unkindly
left behind on windows. Then, like a well meaning thief, it steals away the shadows and
uncovers delicate, gossamer strands of dust, making them sparkle and shimmer like
strings of priceless gems. Good grief! How long have they been there?
So — it’s time to throw open the doors, to clean, scrub and polish, to move things around
and to toss things out. Recycle. It’s time to rethink spaces — get the place looking loved
again and feeling fresh. Redo it, renew it, revive and recharge it — restore and rejuvenate,
revitalize and repair. Nothing stimulates, resuscitates and invites change more than a
morning full of Spring.
Change is what this issue is all about. Get ready to be invigorated with an infection of
stirring up the status quo as we guide you through some dramatically energizing make-
overs. Homes go from tired and dated to downright stop-traffic showpieces. And several,
very good natured women have let themselves be beautifully transformed by talented
teams from local salons - you won’t believe your eyes! It’s always a pleasure to highlight
our region’s businesses and show off the talent that’s available right here in our own
community. I’m thrilled to focus some well deserved attention on homegrown expertise.
We’ve embraced and celebrated change in these pages and we’ve had a lot of fun
doing it. We sincerely hope you feel inspired by what you see and as always, we thank
you for picking us up!
