Tricia is a Retail and Interior Design graduate from
Georgian College in Barrie so drawing on her knowl-
edge of space, shapes, traffic flow, and use of colours
allowed her to use all her talents for the interior decor.
“We had an agreement that Stu was in charge of the
structure and outside of the house and I was in charge
of the interior,” smiles Tricia. "Throughout the project
we remained a team and also encouraged ideas and
input from our daughters and the building crew. To-
gether we all took part in creating this wonderful
home."
All the fixtures in the home came from local sources in-
cluding antique shops, hardware stores, and decor
shops. Favourite pieces from previous homes have
been incorporated along with an inventory of interest-
ing items found in various travels around the globe. Tri-
cia explains, “Most items have a history and story
behind themwhich is personal to us but adds to the cre-
ativity behind the decorating.”
Tricia’s favourite room is the Muskoka room off of the
master bedroom. The combination of the views over
the bay, the pine trees just outside the large windows
and the smell of the log with board and batten, reminds Tricia of many
fond memories spent in her Grandparents’ home in MacTier where
they also had a small all-year porch off their master bedroom. Stuart’s
favourite part of the home is definitely the great room. “I love the soar-
ing cathedral ceiling, the wood burning fireplace and the wall of win-
dows looking out over the ever changing views of Georgian Bay”.
"Naturally there were inevitable challenges along the way, but we
took them in stride," adds Stu. "The log cabin kit including roof panels
is pre-assembled off site making for quick onsite installation by the Leg-
endary Logcrafters' team. When incorporating our customized fea-
tures, we were fortunate that our crew had just the right balance of self
starting initiative and patience to 'multi task' to accommodate the fact
that we were often not available to make an immediate decision. We
navigated the deadlines as well as delays in a positive way. Overall it
was a pleasant experience and we are now celebrating the end of the
building process and looking forward to enjoying our home for many
years to come."
