After studying house plans for several years Tricia
and Stu knew early on that they were instinctively
drawn to the look, feel and allure of a log home.
Lovers of the outdoors and nature, they explored
various materials and designs but always came
back to the combination of the rustic yet durable
properties that are unique to log homes. "There is
a special atmosphere that occurs in a log home that
is welcoming, relaxing, and ageless." says Tricia.
Not wanting a long and complicated process, the
simplicity of a log home package from Legendary
Logcrafters, a local Collingwood business which
specializes in the design and fabrication and instal-
lation of log homes was the perfect solution. Mod-
ifications and additions to the basic plan included
a large mud room, 2 car garage with a separate
apartment, a two story “punch out” to the great
room to capture the view of Georgian Bay, a
screened-inMuskoka room off the master bedroom,
and a walk out basement. Jasper Design in Colling-
wood created the plans for the project.
"Milan Smeh and the team from Legendary
Logcrafters Ltd. were good to work with and it was
relatively easy to customize the log home package
to bring the vision for our home to life." says Tricia.
The log home package was designed and installed
with cathedral ceilings and a two story great room
which is the heart of the home. "Our contractor,
builder, Ron Cundy, did a terrific job and had great
foresight incorporating lofts and different elevations
into the apartment and upstairs bedrooms which
took maximum advantage of the cathedral ceilings.
Ron was supported by a small talented crew who
also contributed many great ideas. Skilled carpen-
ter, Duncan Roberts did a great job on the final fit
and finish including building a custom kitchen and
various pieces of built in furniture." adds Stu.
Capturing the views (both the escarpment to the
front of the house and Georgian Bay to the rear)
was one of the most important considerations dur-
ing the design, layout and positioning process. Easy
access to outdoor areas, ample room for guests,
and open spaces for entertaining were also key.
The owners also wanted a classically timeless look
and feel ensuring their home would retain a cozy,
charming environment for years to come.
The home is surrounded by trees — wood in its nat-
ural setting and the expansive use of windows
across the back of the house provides spectacular
vistas of the seasons, nature and the ever changing
reflections and light dancing across Georgian Bay.
