BUSINESS SPOTLIGHTS
Born
and raised in Owen Sound, Jacquie Furtner
has always had a passion and a flare for design and
home décor. Upon receiving her BA from Wilfred
Laurier University and studying for her business
diploma at Humber College, Jacquie then earned
her Diploma of Interior Design from the Academy of
Design in Toronto. Throughout her international travels Jacquie absorbed as much aesthetic
as she could and is now very pleased to translate what she has learned and bring it home
to Owen Sound. In June 2012, Jacquie opened ‘barebirch’, a stunning home décor store
which delights the senses with casual, cozy, boutique interiors and one-of-a-kind statement
pieces. Overstuffed sofas that beg you to sit down, chrome accent chairs crafted with
cowhide seats and dining tables with ‘distressed’ finishes that work with any décor, are but
a few of the pieces that captured my eye and inspired me to redecorate my own spaces.
Barebirch was created with the philosophy that your surroundings should express who you
are. The first time I set foot in the door, I knew I was home— apparently, it’s not uncommon
for new visitors to exclaim, “I want to live here!” Jacquie and her knowledgeable staff will
help you create a stylish, comfortable space that allows you to be at your best. Their unique
fusion of rustic, casual, sophisticated and contemporary items suit every taste and every
budget with items ranging from trendy accessories to classic anchor items.
Not just limited to home décor items, stop in this season to see their beautiful selection of
Canadian-made buffalo leather handbags, duffle bags and wallets. Barebirch will also be
hosting local artist gallery events beginning this fall.
Find Barebirch at 975 2nd Avenue East in Owen Sound.
The shop is open from 10-6 Monday to Friday and 10-4 on Saturday.
